The Dad’s Handyman Service team loves kitchen remodeling projects! This project in Uptown was no exception. We worked alongside the owner, a professional kitchen cabinet designer, and her interior designer to create useful, practical and elegant arena for her passion- Cooking and Entertaining Friends.

The Dad’s Handyman Service Team was proud to provide an organized plan that kept this project within restraints of the budget and timeline. The owner was thrilled with the end product and even hired Dad’s Handyman Service to remodel one of her bathrooms right after the kitchen.

The soft close hinge, an upgrade you should have on your next kitchen cabinets

This little hinge has change my life

This little hinge has changed my life

For those of you who include slamming of the kitchen cabinet doors as part of your “cooking style”, no need to read this post, I don’t want to cramp your inner Bobby Flay.

If you are loooking for a nice upgrade on your new kitchen cabinets, that will make your kitchen a tad more peaceful, go with a soft close hinge on all of your cabinet doors. It’s a value packed upgrade considering the soft close hinge will abolish the sound of slamming cabinet doors from your life (at least in your house) and it will also lengthen the life of the cabinet by taking stress off of the doors and the cabinet box. The cost of this upgrade is pretty minor as well, running about $25 per cabinet last time I checked.

The hardest part of any kitchen remodeling project is the last 5% of the job. The details like cabinet hardware installation sometimes get forgotton, or simply never completed.

The Dad’s Handyman Service Team was in Lakeview installing cabinet door hardware for a client who has been waiting over a year for her old contractor to finish the work. I am proud to say that we helped her out and hopefully, Dad’s Handyman Service is her new “go to guy”!

This pendant style light fixture makes an elegant statement our client's hallway

A client in Roscoe Village was looking for a way to make his long, non-significant hallway in his new construction home look more unique.

He went out and bought 3 pendant style light fixtures at his favorite lighting gallery, and hired the Dad’s Handyman Service team to install them. In the morning he had 3 nondescript recessed cans, and he came home after work to 3 pendant style fixtures hanging down from the hallway ceiling.

Re-finishing Hardwood Floors In Lakeview

Hardwood Flooring Being Brought Back To Life!

Hardwood Flooring Being Brought Back To Life!

On Thursday, I received a call from a Lakeview landlord who I had done some small projects for in the past. She had a pretty urgent situation with one of her rental units. Her previous tenant had just left, and she was expecting the new set of tenants to move in within a few days.

Problem is, the old tenants didn’t tell her about the black embedded urine stains their pet cat had left on the hardwood floors!
This landlord was in a bind. She has new tenants that are expecting an apartment that is move in ready on Saturday at 11am.

Dad’s Handyman Service to the rescue! We were able to refinish the hardwood floors in this beautiful Lakeview apartment, and still have some time for some painting work that had to be done in the bathroom. The landlord is happy, the tenants are happy, and I am glad that my team was able to do our part in the situation.

Finally, people will see your fine china!

Finally, people will see your fine china!

Thinking about a kitchen remodeling proejct? Don’t forget to add some accent glass to one or two of your wall cabinets. It creates a creative focal point, plus you can finally show off your fine china. Some cabinet companies will prepare your doors for glass during the manufacturing process, but some cabinets doors will have to be altered on site before glass is installed, so know what you are ordering if you intend on using a glass accent. There are at least 20 different patterns and types of glass to choose from, so there is something for everyone.

A Dad’s Handyman Service Green Technology Recommendation: The Ecobee Smart Si Thermostat

January 27th, 2012

The ecobee thermostat saves average consumers 26% a year on their heating and cooling costs! That can easily be $500 or more!

The ecobee thermostat saves average consumers 26% a year on their heating and cooling costs! That can easily be $500 or more!

The Smart Si, made by Ecobee is a WiFi enabled thermostat that can be controlled by your smartphone or tablet. They brag about the fact that this thermostat is EASY to program and adjust. There is a built-in weather function that uses advanced algorithms to help you save the most energy. I personally like the fact that this thermostat will notify you when your HVAC equipment is due for service or needs a filter change. Although this unit will set you back about $400 plus the cost of installation, the average user has saved 26% on their HVAC energy bills, so you should easily achieve return on your investment in the first year of use.
